Moving with your pet

Consejos de mudanza sin estrés con mascotas por Muter Loger

For both you and your pets, moving to a new home involves a certain amount of stress. Indeed, pets also feel the changes brought about by a move and need to acclimatize. Here’s our advice on how to move with your pet in the best possible conditions.

Before moving

To ensure your pet’s well-being, we recommend that you contact your veterinarian for advice. Your mover will also be able to tell you what precautions to take and what to expect if you’re moving an aquarium or vivarium. Or if you’re moving a caged animal (dog, cat, NAC…). Remember to prepare your pet for this change by preserving its bearings and habits. If it’s a dog or cat, plan to make several visits to your new home to familiarize it with its new environment.

During the move

On moving day, we recommend that you leave familiar objects available for your pet. You can also choose to isolate him in a room of your old home until the house or apartment is empty. After that, you can furnish your pet’s means of transport with his or her belongings and food to make him or her feel more comfortable. You can also choose to entrust your pet to a member of your family.

Once you’ve set foot in your new home, rearrange your pet’s belongings to help it settle in more quickly. If you’re transporting marine animals, rodents or reptiles and have no alternative means of transport, you’ll need to take care that the contents of their containers don’t run dry (especially water, sand, etc.).

After your move

We advise you to monitor your pet’s adaptation in the days following your move. If your pet shows signs of aloofness in the first few days, don’t panic – it needs time to adjust. If signs of anxiety, such as hair loss or loss of appetite, persist over time, consult your vet again.

And don’t forget to update your pet’s identification address on the ICAD website or with your vet.
