Military moving guide
Military life is sometimes punctuated by moves linked to transfers. Depending on their situation, military personnel can benefit from assistance and compensation: we’ve put together a guide to military moving for you.
Conditions for government assistance
If you wish to benefit from government assistance, you must be in one of the following situations:
- First posting after leaving school
- Change of residence by order of command
- Service-related transfer “with change of residence
- Cessation of military status
- Cessation of military status
- Be the successor or executor of a deceased soldier.
Beneficiaries of relocation assistance for military personnel
Military personnel are not the only ones eligible for assistance with transport costs. Family members living under the same roof are also eligible:
- Married spouse
- Partner in a civil solidarity pact (PACS)
- Children
- Ascendants dependent on the member or his/her spouse or partner and not subject to income tax
Baggage compensation and transportation: cubage entitlement
You may be entitled to compensation for the cost of transporting your personal effects. At present, the volume to be compensated is calculated on the basis of the member’s seniority and family situation, on the effective date of the transfer order.
For military personnel | For spouse or partner (PACS) | Per dependent child or ascendant
15 years of service and + | 5 m3 | 3 m3 | 1.5 m3 |
– 15 years of service | 4 m3 | 2.5 m3 | 1.5 m3 |
Furniture transport and compensation: cubage entitlement
As with baggage transport, your entitlement is calculated on the basis of your marital status, family situation and military seniority.
For military personnel | For spouse or partner (PACS) | Per dependent child or ascendant
15 years of service and + | 25 m3 | 20 m3 | 5 m3 |
– 15 years of service | 20 m3 | 15 m3 | 5 m3 |
Estimating the reimbursement ceiling
The financial ceiling corresponds to the maximum amount that will be reimbursed to the soldier. It is calculated on the basis of several parameters: your seniority, the volume of the move (corresponding to the cubage requirement), the distance travelled between the place of departure and the place of arrival (in km), a coefficient based on the volume as well as potential supplements linked to floors, porterage or the furniture lift, for example.
Military moving guide: which system to choose?
Once you know your cubage entitlement and your financial ceiling, you’ll need to choose the system you want to move with:
The PFMD Muter Loger: the official Multi-Mover Platform of the French Ministry of the Armed Forces, which simplifies the procedures involved in your move (submitting your file, receiving your quotes, etc.).
The “classic” system: carry out the search on your own
Please note : the French government will only cover the cost of your move up to a certain ceiling. Therefore, if you exceed the ceiling, you can either choose a lower level of service, or pay the difference yourself.
